Arterial tourniquets have been recognised as a means of controlling arterial bleeding for hundreds of years, with initial applications being in the control of blood loss during surgical amputations. The earliest documented military application of the device dates back to the American Civil War in 1862 with the recommendation that every combat soldier should be issued a tourniquet, and trained appropriately. Since that time arterial tourniquet use for control of life-threatening bleeding has been extensively debated in the literature, with pre-Vietnam opinion of the tourniquets of the day being largely negative.

With advances in tourniquet technology, as well as the development of battlefield medicine in the past 15 years in Iraq & Afghanistan, tourniquets are now recognised as a safe and effective method in controlling life-threatening haemorrhage.

This Book will cover the theory required for Police and other First Responders to confidently and effectively apply an arterial tourniquet to a life-threatening limb bleed.

Please note - this product is a reference guide to using Arterial Tourniquets and does not include a tourniquet itself. Tacmed recommends and prefers the SOF-T Tourniquet which can be purchased here.
