The SAM IO Driver is a multi-use, manually operated intraosseous access driver designed to provide a tactile feel for accurate needle placement. Ideal for adult and paediatric patients, the SAM IO Driver is indicated for use in the proximal humerus, proximal tibia, and distal tibia, with the distal femur also being an option for paediatric patients.
Placement of the catheter is achieved by gently compressing the driver's trigger assembly, which rotates the needle assembly. This, in combination with gentle downward pressure, ensures controlled intraosseous (IO) placement. Once the needle assembly is in the correct position, the stylet is removed, exposing a standard Luer-lock fitting for easy connection of extension sets.
Built to military-grade durability, the SAM IO Driver is made from lightweight, high-strength polycarbonate material and meets MIL-STD 810G testing standards. Weighing just 70g, it has been tested for over 10,000 actuations, ensuring reliability and longevity even in the harshest environments.

How does the SAM IO Driver work?
The driver uses a trigger assembly to rotate the IO needle, and with gentle downward pressure, achieves controlled intraosseous placement. The stylet is then removed for easy connection of extension sets.
What is the benefit of the ratcheting handle?
The ratcheting handle provides precise, controlled placement of the IO needle, reducing the risk of error during insertion.
Is the SAM IO Driver suitable for paediatric use?
Yes. The device is suitable for both adult and paediatric patients. In children, the distal femur may also be used as an access site.
How durable is the SAM IO Driver?
It is made of high-strength polycarbonate, tested for over 10,000 actuations, and compliant with MIL-STD 810G standards, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding conditions.
What accessories are required?
The SAM IO Driver is used with SAM IO Needles, the SAM IO Stabiliser, and the SAM IO Adaptor. These are sold separately.
