TraumaSim's Fragmentation Single 1 is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a single, significant fragment penetrating wound — the wound profile produced when an individual fragment of meaningful size and energy penetrates the body as a discrete, defined penetrating injury rather than the distributed spray pattern of multiple smaller fragment impacts.

The single fragment wound is clinically distinct from the spray variants. Where fragmentation spray presents a field of multiple small distributed entry wounds, a single significant fragment wound presents as a larger, more defined penetrating injury — closer in clinical presentation to a ballistic wound than to the spray pattern, and requiring a similar assessment approach: wound depth, wound channel direction, potential organ and vascular involvement along the fragment track, and management of a single defined penetrating wound rather than a distributed wound field.

In blast and explosive trauma scenarios, single fragment wounds occur alongside spray wounds across different body regions of the same casualty — a proximity blast casualty may have spray wounds on exposed surfaces and single significant fragment wounds where a larger fragment has struck a more protected or differently oriented body region. Having both wound types available allows instructors to build anatomically and mechanistically accurate blast casualty presentations with the wound combination that reflects realistic explosive injury patterns.

The compact format — 7 cm x 10 cm x 0.4 cm — makes this prosthetic well suited to precise placement on any body surface where a single penetrating fragment wound is the appropriate presentation. The wound profile depth and surface detail reflect the characteristic tissue disruption of a significant single fragment entry, distinct from the smaller, more superficial individual wound points within a spray pattern.

Used alongside the Fragmentation Spray variants, this prosthetic completes the TraumaSim fragmentation wound range — covering both distributed spray and single significant fragment presentations for comprehensive blast injury scenario capability.

Manufactured from durable, life-like silicone with tapered edges that blend naturally onto skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. Hand painted — minor variation in appearance between units should be expected.

To complete the casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab around and into the wound site, distress clothing with blast-appropriate damage at the wound location, and position the casualty consistently with the blast scenario mechanism.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits, including the Silicone Wound Kit — Military.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • User Guide
  • Single significant fragment penetrating wound: Defined, discrete penetrating wound from a meaningful-size fragment — distinct from the distributed multi-point spray pattern.
  • Clinically distinct from fragmentation spray: Requires single-wound assessment approach — wound depth, channel direction, internal structure involvement — rather than systematic distributed wound field assessment.
  • Completes the TraumaSim fragmentation range: Paired with Spray 1, 2, and 3 for comprehensive blast casualty wound coverage across both distributed and single fragment injury types.
  • Anatomically versatile placement: Compact 7 cm x 10 cm format suits precise placement on any body surface where a single penetrating fragment wound is the appropriate presentation.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
  • Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation with no visible border.
  • Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
  • Available individually and in kits: Included in the Silicone Wound Kit — Military and selected other kit configurations.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What injury does this simulate?
A single significant penetrating fragment wound — a discrete, defined penetrating injury from an individual fragment of meaningful size and energy, as distinct from the distributed multi-point wound field of a fragmentation spray injury. This wound type occurs when a larger fragment strikes a defined body surface point with sufficient energy to produce a significant penetrating wound.

How does this differ from the Fragmentation Spray variants?
The Fragmentation Spray variants present distributed multi-point wound fields — multiple small fragment entries across a surface area simultaneously. The Fragmentation Single presents one defined penetrating wound from a significant individual fragment. Clinically, the single wound requires a focused single-wound assessment approach — depth, channel direction, internal structure involvement — while the spray pattern requires systematic multi-wound field assessment. Both wound types occur in blast casualties and require different clinical responses.

Can this be used alongside the spray variants on the same casualty?
Yes — and this is the most anatomically accurate way to present a blast casualty. Real proximity blast injuries often produce both spray wounds on directly exposed surfaces and single significant fragment wounds where larger fragments have struck the body. Combining spray and single fragment prosthetics on the same casualty reflects that realistic injury combination.

What scenarios is this suited to?
Military, tactical, and emergency response blast and explosive trauma training — IED incidents, indirect fire, vehicle-borne explosives, grenade proximity, and any scenario where single fragment penetrating wounds are part of the casualty profile. Also relevant to industrial explosion scenarios.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.

Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab around and into the wound site during scenario setup.

How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.

Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing between sessions.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 7 cm x 10 cm x 0.4 cm and weighs 0.1 kg.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Fragmentation Single 1 is included in the TraumaSim Silicone Wound Kit — Military. Contact TacMed Australia for details on other kit configurations that include this wound.
