TraumaSim's Gunshot Exit Wound Medium is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic delivering a medically accurate representation of a medium-calibre ballistic exit wound — sitting between the Small and Large exit wound variants in the TraumaSim range, and reflecting the exit wound characteristics most commonly encountered in standard-calibre ballistic trauma scenarios.
Exit wounds are clinically distinct from entry wounds in both appearance and the management decisions they inform. Where entry wounds tend to be smaller, rounder, and more defined, exit wounds present with larger, more irregular margins and everted tissue — the result of the projectile's kinetic energy dispersing outward through tissue as it exits the body. At 12 cm x 12 cm x 0.5 cm, the Medium variant presents a more significant wound face than the Small, with greater depth and surface disruption detail — appropriate for standard-calibre ballistic presentations where wound severity needs to register clearly without the extreme disruption of a high-energy large-calibre exit.
For instructors building complete ballistic trauma scenarios, the Medium exit wound pairs naturally with the 7.62 mm Entry variant — entry on one surface, exit on the opposite — creating a realistic through-and-through wound pair that tests complete bilateral wound identification and assessment. Across the exit wound range, having Small, Medium, and Large variants available allows instructors to vary ballistic profiles across training sessions, reflect different calibre and energy scenarios, and prevent trainees from pattern-matching to a single familiar wound size.
Manufactured from durable, life-like silicone with tapered edges that blend naturally onto skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. Hand painted — minor variation in appearance between units should be expected.
All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits.
Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.
- Self-Adhesive Silicone Gunshot Exit Wound Medium
- User Guide
- Medically accurate medium exit wound profile: Irregular everted wound margins reflecting standard-calibre ballistic exit wound characteristics — more extensive disruption than the Small variant, less than the Large.
- Mid-range in a three-variant exit wound system: Completes the Small/Medium/Large exit wound range for calibre-variable ballistic scenario training.
- Pairs naturally with gunshot entry variants: Enables complete through-and-through bilateral wound pair presentations on a single casualty.
- Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
- Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation with no visible border.
- Greater depth than Small variant: 0.5 cm wound face depth for more pronounced wound surface detail.
- Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
- Available individually and in kits: Included in selected TraumaSim moulage kits and available for individual purchase.
- 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.
What injury does this simulate?
A medium-calibre ballistic exit wound — the wound produced when a standard-calibre projectile exits the body. Exit wounds present with irregular, everted wound margins and greater tissue disruption than entry wounds, reflecting the outward dispersal of kinetic energy through tissue as the projectile exits.
Where does this sit in the exit wound range?
The Medium variant sits between the Small and Large. The Small reflects lower-energy or smaller-calibre exit wounds with a more contained margin. The Medium reflects standard-calibre exit presentations with moderate tissue disruption. The Large reflects high-energy or large-calibre exit wounds with extensive disruption. Together, the three variants allow instructors to vary ballistic scenario profiles and prevent trainee pattern-matching across sessions.
Should I pair this with an entry wound prosthetic?
For complete through-and-through ballistic presentations, yes. Applying a gunshot entry wound on the entry surface and this exit wound on the opposite surface creates a realistic bilateral wound pair that tests complete wound identification, assessment, and management decision-making — not just single-wound recognition.
Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.
Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab around and across the wound site during scenario setup.
How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive products. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.
Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing and wound profile between sessions.
What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.
What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 12 cm x 12 cm x 0.5 cm and weighs 0.05 kg.
Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Gunshot Exit Wound Medium is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit and selected other kit configurations. Contact TacMed Australia for details.
