TraumaSim's Impalement — Stick is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic simulating an impalement injury with a protruding wooden object — one of the most visually distinctive and clinically specific trauma presentations available in the TraumaSim range.
Impalement injuries present a unique management challenge that requires dedicated scenario exposure. The instinct to remove the object is wrong — correct management requires stabilising the impaled object in place, controlling bleeding around the wound site, and managing the patient for transport without disturbing the object. Trainees who haven't seen and managed an impalement presentation before are likely to make exactly that error. This prosthetic creates the scenario that corrects it.
The silicone wound base features realistic tissue disruption and wound margin detail around the protruding stick, with tapered edges that blend naturally onto skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. The three-dimensional protrusion creates an immediate, high-impact visual that communicates the injury clearly and prompts the clinical decision-making the scenario is designed to train.
To build a complete casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab around the wound site to simulate active or dried bleeding, position and distress clothing to reflect the mechanism of injury — workplace incident, fall, outdoor trauma — and place the casualty in an environment consistent with the impalement scenario. That environmental context is what transforms the prosthetic from a prop into a training event.
All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits.
Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

What injury does this simulate?
A penetrating impalement injury with a protruding wooden stick — reflecting trauma from workplace incidents, falls onto sharp objects, outdoor accidents, or structural collapse. The three-dimensional protrusion is the defining feature of the presentation and the clinical management challenge it creates.
What makes impalement injuries different to train for?
Impalement injuries require a fundamentally different management approach to other penetrating trauma. The object must not be removed in the field — correct treatment involves stabilising the impaled object in place, controlling haemorrhage around the wound site, and carefully packaging the patient for transport. Trainees who haven't encountered this presentation are at risk of defaulting to object removal, which can cause catastrophic additional injury. This scenario creates the exposure that corrects that instinct.
Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — a stick-on moulage piece applied to skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.
Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab around the wound base during scenario setup.
How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.
Is the protruding stick rigid?
The stick component is part of the silicone construction — refer to the user guide for handling and storage guidance to maintain the three-dimensional profile between sessions.
Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store appropriately to protect the three-dimensional stick profile.
What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.
What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 12 cm x 13 cm x 4 cm and weighs 0.1 kg.
Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Impalement — Stick is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit and selected other kit configurations. Contact TacMed Australia for details.
