TraumaSim's Laceration Suturable is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a clean-edged laceration specifically designed to represent a wound that is appropriate for suture closure — a wound type that demands a distinct clinical assessment and management pathway from lacerations that are packed, dressed, or managed by other means.

The wound profile reflects the characteristics of a suturable laceration: clean, well-defined wound margins, appropriate wound length and depth, and the kind of wound geometry that lends itself to primary closure. That distinction is clinically meaningful. Not all lacerations are candidates for suturing — contaminated wounds, bite wounds, puncture wounds, and wounds with significant tissue loss or irregular margins are typically managed differently. Training trainees to recognise a suturable wound presentation — and to make that clinical determination accurately — is a foundational wound assessment skill in clinical, pre-hospital, and emergency response training contexts.

Used in combination with the TraumaSim Suture Trainer, this prosthetic creates a complete suture skill training pathway: the Laceration Suturable provides the scenario-based wound recognition and decision-making element — should this wound be sutured? what type of closure is appropriate? — while the Suture Trainer provides the hands-on technical practice surface for suture and closure technique development.

As a standalone moulage piece, it's also an effective scenario element for patient assessment exercises, triage training, and wound management decision-making scenarios in first aid, nursing, and clinical education programs where the suturable wound type needs to be distinctly represented in the casualty profile.

Manufactured from durable, life-like silicone with tapered edges that blend naturally onto skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. Hand painted — minor variation in appearance between units should be expected.

To complete the casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab along the wound margins, distress clothing to reflect the mechanism, and position the casualty in a consistent environment.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits, including the Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • Self-Adhesive Silicone Laceration Suturable
  • User Guide
  • Suturable laceration profile: Clean, well-defined wound margins reflecting a wound geometry appropriate for primary suture closure — distinct from irregular, contaminated, or non-suturable wound presentations.
  • Develops wound closure decision-making: Trains trainees to identify a suturable wound and determine appropriate closure technique — a clinical assessment skill beyond wound recognition alone.
  • Pairs with the TraumaSim Suture Trainer: Scenario-based wound recognition and decision-making element that complements the Suture Trainer's hands-on technique practice surface.
  • Relevant across multiple training contexts: First aid, nursing, clinical, pre-hospital, and emergency response programs where wound assessment and management decision-making are training objectives.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
  • Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation with no visible border.
  • Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
  • Available individually and in kits: Included in the Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit and available for individual purchase.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What injury does this simulate?
A clean-edged laceration with wound characteristics appropriate for primary suture closure — defined wound margins, appropriate geometry, and wound depth consistent with a wound that a clinician would assess as suturable rather than managed by packing, secondary closure, or other means.

What makes a laceration "suturable" and why is that a training-relevant distinction?
A suturable laceration typically has clean, well-approximated wound margins, appropriate depth and length, and is free from significant contamination or tissue loss. Not all lacerations meet these criteria — contaminated wounds, bite wounds, puncture wounds, and wounds with irregular margins or tissue loss are generally not candidates for primary suture closure. Training trainees to make that distinction accurately during wound assessment is a meaningful clinical decision-making skill that this prosthetic is specifically designed to develop.

Can this be used with the TraumaSim Suture Trainer?
Yes — and the two products work well together as a complete suture training pathway. The Laceration Suturable provides the scenario-based wound recognition and closure decision-making element. The Suture Trainer provides the hands-on technical surface for practising suture and wound closure technique. Together they cover the full skill chain from wound assessment to technical closure practice.

What training programs is this suited to?
Nursing and medical education, clinical skills training, pre-hospital care, emergency response, first aid, and any program where wound assessment and management decision-making — including wound closure decision-making — are training objectives.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.

Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab along the wound margins during scenario setup.

How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.

Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing between sessions.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 12 cm x 12 cm x 0.4 cm and weighs 0.1 kg.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Laceration Suturable is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit. Contact TacMed Australia for details on other kit configurations that include this wound.
