TraumaSim's Open Laceration with Bleeding Capacity is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic that combines a medically accurate open soft tissue laceration presentation with integrated active bleeding capability — the functional step up from the static Open Laceration variants for training programs where haemorrhage control is a core skill objective alongside wound assessment.

The open wound profile presents separated wound margins with layered depth detail reflecting the soft tissue injury characteristics of sharp force trauma, industrial incidents, and accident-related lacerations. That realistic depth and open wound face creates the visual presentation trainees need for accurate wound assessment practice. The integrated bleeding tube takes the scenario further — active blood flow from the wound site introduces the time pressure, urgency, and decision-making demand that static wound presentation alone cannot replicate.

The bleeding tube routes discreetly beneath clothing or alongside the body and connects to an included 20 ml syringe that can be concealed on the role player for self-activation during the scenario. That self-activation capability means the bleeding starts at the moment the scenario demands it — no instructor interruption, no immersion break, no transition between wound recognition and haemorrhage control phases. The scenario flows as a single continuous event: arrive, assess, identify, respond.

This makes the prosthetic particularly effective for haemorrhage control training in first aid, emergency response, and pre-hospital care programs — where the sequence from wound identification to bleeding control intervention needs to be practised as an uninterrupted skill chain rather than segmented exercises. It's also well suited to Stop The Bleed style community training where learner engagement and realistic scenario impact are priorities.

Each unit is hand finished — minor variation in appearance and exact dimensions between units should be expected.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of selected TraumaSim moulage kits.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. • User Guide
  • Open laceration with integrated bleeding capacity: Combines realistic wound presentation with active haemorrhage simulation — trains the complete assess-and-intervene sequence as a single uninterrupted scenario event.
  • Layered soft tissue depth detail: Open wound profile with realistic wound face depth reflecting sharp force, industrial, and accident-related laceration presentations.
  • Role player-activated bleeding: 20 ml syringe concealed on the role player allows self-activation at the critical scenario moment — no instructor intervention required.
  • Discreet tube routing: Bleeding tube designed for concealment beneath or alongside clothing for seamless scenario immersion.
  • Suitable for haemorrhage control and Stop The Bleed training: Develops the complete wound recognition and bleeding control skill chain in a single scenario tool.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.

How does the bleeding capacity work?
An integrated bleeding tube is routed through the wound and can be concealed discreetly beneath clothing or alongside the body. A 20 ml syringe filled with simulated blood connects to the tube and can be held by the role player. Depressing the syringe activates blood flow from the wound site at the moment the scenario requires it — without instructor intervention.

How does this differ from the static Open Laceration variants?
The static Open Laceration Small and Medium present realistic wound appearances for wound identification and assessment training without active bleeding. This variant adds integrated bleeding capability, converting the prosthetic into a haemorrhage control training tool. The right choice depends on the training objective — wound assessment only, or the complete assess-identify-intervene sequence with active bleeding feedback.

What training programs is this suited to?
First aid, Stop The Bleed, emergency response, pre-hospital care, clinical simulation, workplace health and safety, and any program where the wound recognition and haemorrhage control sequence needs to be trained as a connected skill chain in a single scenario.

Can the bleeding tube be concealed effectively under clothing?
Yes. The tube is designed to be routed discreetly beneath or alongside clothing during casualty setup. The role player self-activates the bleed at the appropriate scenario moment without the tube being visible to trainees.

What simulated blood should I use?
TraumaSim recommends Ben Nye Stage Blood diluted at 1 part blood to 3 parts water for optimal performance through the bleeding tube system.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic with integrated bleeding capacity — applied directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It is not a garment or strapping system.

Is it reusable?
Yes. The prosthetic is washable and designed for repeated use. Clean gently after each session, flush the bleeding tube with clean water, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the packaging dimensions and weight?
Packaging dimensions are 30 cm x 25 cm x 1 cm. Weight is 0.2 kg. Note that listed dimensions refer to packaging only — product dimensions vary as each unit is individually hand finished.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. TraumaSim silicone wounds are available individually and as part of selected kit configurations. Contact TacMed Australia for details.
