The TraumaSim Haemostatic Clotting Trainer — Thigh is a dedicated task trainer for one of the most technically demanding and time-critical interventions in haemorrhage control: managing a high junctional femoral wound where tourniquet application is not an option.

Junctional bleeding — where a limb meets the torso — is among the leading causes of preventable death in trauma. The femoral location high on the thigh sits above the tourniquet application zone, meaning wound packing and direct pressure are the primary interventions available. Getting that technique right under stress, with a realistic wound geometry and active bleeding, requires dedicated practice. That's exactly what this trainer is built for.

The large femoral wound cavity is anatomically positioned and sized to reflect a realistic high junctional injury. Bleeding is delivered via an instructor-controlled 50 ml syringe connected through included tubing and connectors, allowing trainers to vary flow intensity throughout the scenario — from a steady bleed to a high-pressure arterial simulation — and to reward correct packing technique with visible haemostasis.

For programs running SimClot and training gauze, this trainer is designed to work alongside both — giving trainees a realistic packing medium and haemostatic agent application experience within the same scenario. TraumaSim recommends Ben Nye Stage Blood diluted at 1 part blood to 3 parts water for optimal performance. A generous 500 ml of stage blood is included with the kit.

The trainer is washable, durable, and built for repeated high-volume use. NSN listed for Defence procurement.

For more complex junctional trauma scenarios requiring additional anatomical detail and intervention options, see the TraumaSim Combat Trauma Thigh Trainer.

Available in multiple skin tones. Tone 01 Light is shown in product images and held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

Why is junctional wound training specifically important?
Junctional wounds — where a limb meets the torso — sit above the effective tourniquet application zone. That means wound packing and direct pressure are the only available interventions to control arterial bleeding in these locations. It's a higher-complexity, higher-consequence skill than standard limb tourniquet application, and one that requires dedicated hands-on practice to perform reliably under stress.

How does the bleeding simulation work?
A 50 ml syringe connects via tubing and a straight connector to the wound cavity. Instructors control bleeding intensity by varying syringe pressure — simulating everything from a slow persistent bleed to a high-pressure arterial flow. Correct packing technique reduces visible flow, providing immediate feedback to the trainee.

Can this trainer be used with SimClot and training gauze?
Yes. The TraumaSim Haemostatic Clotting Trainer — Thigh is designed to work alongside TraumaSim SimClot and Training Gauze, allowing trainees to practise realistic haemostatic dressing application and wound packing technique within the same scenario setup.

What simulated blood should I use?
TraumaSim recommends Ben Nye Stage Blood diluted at 1 part blood to 3 parts water. A 500 ml bottle of stage blood is included with this kit.

Does this kit have a NATO Stock Number?
Yes. NSN 6910-66-166-2543 — suitable for procurement through Australian Defence supply channels.

How does this differ from the Combat Trauma Thigh Trainer?
The Haemostatic Clotting Trainer — Thigh focuses specifically on femoral wound packing and direct pressure technique for junctional haemorrhage control. The Combat Trauma Thigh Trainer is designed for more complex, multi-intervention junctional trauma scenarios. If your program requires advanced scenario complexity beyond wound packing, the Combat Trauma Thigh Trainer is the appropriate step up.

Is it reusable?
Yes. The trainer is washable and designed for repeated use. Rinse thoroughly after each session, dry completely, and store in a cool, dry location.

What skin tones are available?
Tone 01 Light is held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order if a specific tone is required.

What are the dimensions and weight?
The trainer measures 50 cm x 30 cm x 8 cm and weighs 4 kg.

Who is this suited to?
Military medical training programs, tactical first aid instructors, pre-hospital care educators, emergency response organisations, and any program delivering haemorrhage control training where junctional femoral wound management is part of the curriculum.
