TraumaSim's Abrasion Large Graze is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a large-scale superficial abrasion — an extensive friction wound across a broad body surface area reflecting the injury pattern produced when a large skin surface contacts an abrasive surface at speed or under significant force.

The large graze format is the scale differentiator within the TraumaSim abrasion range. Where the Small Graze presents a compact, localised friction wound, the Large Graze covers a significantly broader surface area — 17 cm x 20.5 cm — reflecting the extensive skin contact area produced by vehicle incidents, high-speed falls, motorcycle accidents, bicycle crashes, and other mechanisms where the body travels across or impacts a hard abrasive surface over a distance rather than a point. The injury pattern communicates both the mechanism severity and the surface area involved — information that matters for wound assessment, fluid loss consideration, dressing requirements, and contamination management.

The low 0.2 cm profile keeps the prosthetic flat and flexible for clean application across curved body surfaces — particularly the outer thigh, hip, shoulder, forearm, and knee where large graze injuries from sliding contact mechanisms are most commonly encountered. The broad surface area also makes this prosthetic visually impactful at scenario arrival distance — a large area of raw, grazed skin is immediately communicative of the mechanism and registers severity without requiring close assessment.

Used alongside the Abrasion Deep, the two prosthetics cover the abrasion spectrum across both depth and surface area — deep but compact from direct impact, and extensive but superficial from sliding contact. Both wound types from the same incident mechanism is also a realistic multi-wound presentation — a motorcycle casualty may have a large graze on the hip and a deep abrasion on the palm from catching the fall.

To complete the casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab across the wound surface to simulate the weeping, raw tissue appearance of a fresh large graze, distress clothing with abrasion-consistent shredding and ground-in debris, and position the casualty in an environment consistent with a vehicle, motorcycle, or high-speed fall incident.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits including the Silicone Wound Kit — Trauma.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • Large-scale superficial abrasion presentation: 17 cm x 20.5 cm wound surface area — reflects extensive skin contact from vehicle incidents, motorcycle accidents, high-speed falls, and sliding contact mechanisms.
  • High visual impact at scenario arrival distance: Broad surface area communicates mechanism severity and wound extent immediately — no close examination required.
  • Low-profile flexible format: 0.2 cm depth — applies cleanly to curved body surfaces including hip, thigh, shoulder, and knee.
  • Scale differentiation from Small Graze and Abrasion Deep: Completes the abrasion range across wound scale and depth — extensive surface graze versus compact deep abrasion versus small localised graze.
  • Supports realistic multi-wound presentations: Naturally combines with Abrasion Deep for mechanism-accurate multi-wound casualty design — large graze from sliding contact plus deep abrasion from point impact in the same incident.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
  • Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation.
  • Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
  • Available individually and in kits: Included in the Silicone Wound Kit — Trauma and selected other configurations.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What injury does this simulate?
A large superficial abrasion — an extensive friction wound across a broad body surface area from sliding contact with an abrasive surface. Common mechanisms include vehicle incidents, motorcycle accidents, bicycle crashes, high-speed falls, and any scenario where the body travels across a hard surface over a distance.

How does this differ from the Abrasion Small Graze and Abrasion Deep?
The abrasion range covers three distinct presentations. The Small Graze is a compact, localised superficial friction wound. The Large Graze is the same superficial wound type at a significantly broader scale — reflecting extended surface contact rather than a point impact. The Abrasion Deep is compact but with significant dermis removal and raw tissue exposure — reflecting a concentrated deep friction wound rather than an extended surface graze. Each presents a different wound assessment scenario and may require different management considerations.

What body surfaces is this best suited to?
Hip, outer thigh, shoulder, forearm, and knee — the body surfaces most frequently producing large graze injuries in vehicle, motorcycle, and high-speed fall incidents. The flexible low-profile construction applies cleanly to all of these curved surfaces.

Can this be paired with other abrasion prosthetics on the same casualty?
Yes — and this is a realistic multi-wound configuration for vehicle and motorcycle incidents. A large graze on the hip or thigh from sliding contact combined with a deep abrasion on the hand or palm from a catch fall reflects the actual wound pattern of a road slide incident accurately.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.

Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab across the wound surface during scenario setup — simulating the weeping raw tissue appearance of a fresh large graze.

How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface. The large format may require smoothing from the centre outward during application to ensure the full surface adheres evenly on curved body surfaces.

Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing and prevent edge lifting between sessions.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 17 cm x 20.5 cm x 0.2 cm and weighs 0.4 kg.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Abrasion Large Graze is included in the Silicone Wound Kit — Trauma. Contact TacMed Australia for details on other kit configurations that include this wound.
