TraumaSim's Abrasion Small Graze is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a compact superficial abrasion — a localised friction wound at the smaller end of the graze injury spectrum, reflecting the wound profile of a contained impact or limited surface contact abrasion.
The small graze is the most commonly encountered abrasion presentation in everyday first aid contexts — the injury type that most frequently comes through the doors of workplaces, schools, sporting clubs, and community settings. Falls onto hard surfaces, sporting impacts, bicycle incidents, and minor machinery contact all produce compact surface abrasions that are among the most frequent soft tissue injuries a first aid responder will assess and manage. Having a realistic, repeatable wound presentation for this injury type — rather than asking trainees to imagine it or describe it verbally — produces better wound assessment and management skill transfer to real patient contact.
The compact 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm format and 0.4 cm depth position this prosthetic as the smaller, shallower end of the abrasion range — paired naturally with the Large Graze for surface area scale training, and with the Abrasion Deep for wound depth differentiation training. The 0.4 cm depth adds realistic surface texture and tissue disruption detail at close assessment range, distinguishing this from a purely surface-level prosthetic and providing the wound face detail that makes realistic wound assessment practice possible.
Well suited to hands, knees, elbows, and forearms — the body surfaces where small grazes from everyday falls and impact mechanisms are most commonly encountered. Its compact size and flat profile also make it effective as a secondary wound on multi-wound casualties where a minor abrasion accompanies a more significant primary injury — the compound fracture with a graze from the impact surface, or the laceration casualty with an accompanying friction wound from the fall.
To complete the casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab across the wound surface for active tissue weeping or drying effect, and position the casualty consistently with the mechanism.
All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits including the Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit, Silicone Wound Kit — Trauma, and Trainer's Pack — Provide First Aid.
Available in 11 skin tones. Tone 01 Light shown in product images and held in standard stock. Others manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.
- Compact superficial abrasion presentation: Small localised graze wound reflecting everyday falls, impact, and minor surface contact mechanisms — the most common abrasion type in first aid and community settings.
- 0.4 cm wound depth: Realistic surface texture and tissue disruption detail at close assessment range — more than a surface impression, less than a deep abrasion.
- Natural secondary wound pairing: Effective as a companion wound on multi-wound casualties alongside more significant primary injuries — adds realistic scenario complexity without dominating the presentation.
- Broad everyday training relevance: Hands, knees, elbows, forearms — body surfaces and mechanisms relevant to first aid programs across workplace, school, community, and sporting contexts.
- Scale and depth differentiation pairing: Works alongside Large Graze for surface area scale training and Abrasion Deep for wound depth differentiation — a complete abrasion range in combination.
- Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
- Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation.
- Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
- Available individually and in kits: Included in multiple TraumaSim kit configurations.
- 11 skin tones available: Tone 01 Light held in standard stock; others manufactured to order.
What injury does this simulate?
A small, localised superficial abrasion — a compact friction wound from a contained fall, sporting impact, minor machinery contact, or similar everyday mechanism. This is the most common abrasion type encountered in first aid and community settings and the standard starting point for abrasion wound assessment and management training.
How does this differ from the Abrasion Large Graze and Abrasion Deep?
Three distinct presentations covering the abrasion spectrum. The Small Graze is compact and superficial — localised friction wound at surface level. The Large Graze is the same superficial wound type across a significantly broader body surface area — reflecting extended sliding contact from vehicle or high-speed fall mechanisms. The Abrasion Deep is compact but with significant dermis removal and raw tissue exposure — a concentrated deep friction wound requiring more active management. Training across all three builds complete abrasion assessment and depth differentiation skills.
What body surfaces is this best suited to?
Hands, knees, elbows, and forearms — the body surfaces where small graze injuries from everyday falls and impact mechanisms are most commonly encountered. The compact 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm format and flexible construction apply cleanly to all of these.
Can this be used as a secondary wound on a multi-wound casualty?
Yes — and this is one of its most practical training applications. A minor graze on the hand or elbow accompanying a more significant primary wound — a laceration, fracture, or deeper abrasion — adds realistic multi-wound complexity to the casualty presentation without competing with the primary wound for trainee attention.
Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.
Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab across the wound surface during scenario setup.
How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.
Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing between sessions.
What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Tone 01 Light is held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.
What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm x 0.4 cm and weighs 0.2 kg.
Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Abrasion Small Graze is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit, Silicone Wound Kit — Trauma, and Trainer's Pack — Provide First Aid. Contact TacMed Australia for details on other kit configurations.
