TraumaSim's Compound Fracture Humerus is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a medically accurate open humeral fracture with exposed bone detail and realistic soft tissue disruption — a high-impact upper arm injury presentation for trauma, emergency response, and pre-hospital training scenarios.

An open humerus fracture is a complex, multi-intervention injury that tests the full range of musculoskeletal trauma management skills. The exposed bone immediately communicates fracture severity and the need for careful, coordinated clinical response — haemorrhage control at the wound site, fracture stabilisation to prevent further neurovascular damage, pain management for a high-pain injury, and patient packaging that protects the injured limb during movement and transport. The specific location — the upper arm — also introduces neurovascular assessment considerations for the radial nerve and brachial artery that a lower limb fracture doesn't present in the same way, adding clinical depth to the assessment scenario.

The self-adhesive format of this prosthetic — as distinct from the Combat TraumaWear Open Humerus Fracture wearable — makes it the practical choice for manikin-based training, skills station setups, and scenarios where fast application and clean reset are priorities. At 11 cm x 17 cm x 0.2 cm it is a relatively low-profile prosthetic with a thin wound face — the exposed bone detail is integrated into the wound surface rather than protruding significantly, giving the prosthetic a realistic fracture wound appearance while maintaining a flexible, easily applied format suited to upper arm placement.

The Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit includes this wound as part of its fracture wound category — making it part of the standard TraumaSim fracture training coverage alongside the Open Fracture, Compound Fracture Rib with Bleeding Capacity, and haematoma variants.

Relevant mechanisms are broad: falls from height, motor vehicle accidents, sporting injuries, direct high-force impact, and blast or fragmentation — any scenario where significant force to the upper arm produces an open fracture.

Tones 01 Light and 08 Tan are shown in product images. Each unit is hand finished — minor variation in appearance and exact dimensions should be expected.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of the Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • Medically accurate open humeral fracture with exposed bone: Realistic fracture presentation for upper arm trauma scenarios — communicates injury severity and drives multi-intervention clinical response.
  • Multi-intervention training platform: Supports haemorrhage control, fracture stabilisation, neurovascular assessment, pain management, splinting, and patient packaging training from a single wound presentation.
  • Neurovascular assessment relevance: Upper arm fracture location introduces radial nerve and brachial artery assessment considerations distinct from lower limb fracture presentations.
  • Low-profile self-adhesive format: 11 cm x 17 cm x 0.2 cm — flexible and practical for upper arm placement on manikins, role players, and skills station setups.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
  • Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation.
  • Hand finished: Each unit individually trimmed — minor variation in appearance may occur. Tones 01 Light and 08 Tan shown in product images.
  • Washable and reusable: Designed for repeated high-volume training use.
  • Available individually and in kits: Included in the Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What injury does this simulate?
An open compound fracture of the humerus — a severe upper arm fracture where the broken bone has penetrated through the overlying soft tissue and skin. Associated with falls from height, motor vehicle accidents, direct high-force impact, sporting injuries, and blast or fragmentation trauma.

What clinical skills does this wound presentation develop?
Haemorrhage control at an open fracture site, fracture stabilisation to prevent further neurovascular damage, radial nerve and brachial artery neurovascular assessment, splinting technique for an upper arm fracture, pain management, patient communication in a high-pain injury scenario, and patient packaging for transport. The upper arm location introduces specific neurovascular assessment considerations that lower limb fracture training doesn't develop.

How does this differ from the Combat TraumaWear Open Humerus Fracture?
The Combat TraumaWear is a wearable garment for role player use — strap-on application for high-tempo scenario training with a live casualty. This is a self-adhesive prosthetic for manikin or role player skin application — the practical format for moulage kit inclusion, skills station setups, and scenarios where fast application and clean reset are priorities. The Combat TraumaWear also includes integrated bleeding capacity; this prosthetic is a static wound presentation.

Does this include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab around the wound site and exposed bone detail during scenario setup.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system. For a wearable humerus fracture with integrated bleeding, see the Combat TraumaWear Open Humerus Fracture.

How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.

Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing between sessions.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Tones 01 Light and 08 Tan are shown in product images and held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the packaging dimensions and weight?
Packaging dimensions are 11 cm x 17 cm x 0.2 cm. Weight is 0.2 kg. Note that listed dimensions refer to packaging only — product dimensions vary as each unit is individually hand finished.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Compound Fracture Humerus is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit. Contact TacMed Australia for details on other kit configurations.
