TraumaSim's Laceration Elongated is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a long, linear wound profile — the characteristic presentation of a slash or drag injury from a sharp implement, extended contact with a sharp edge, or a sustained cutting mechanism across a body surface.

The elongated format is a deliberately distinct wound shape within the TraumaSim range. Where circular, jagged, and short sharp lacerations each communicate a specific mechanism at a glance, the elongated linear wound communicates something different — a slash rather than a stab, a drag rather than an impact. That visual distinction is clinically meaningful: the wound shape informs mechanism, and mechanism informs the broader clinical picture a trainee needs to construct during patient assessment. A long linear laceration on a forearm reads differently to a circular wound in the same location, and training that wound recognition is part of what quality scenario design does.

At 10 cm x 15 cm x 0.2 cm, it's the largest footprint of the standard laceration variants — suitable for prominent placement on limbs, torso, or neck where a high-impact, immediately visible wound presentation is required. The low profile and tapered edges mean it sits flat and blends naturally onto curved body surfaces without lifting or visible borders.

To build a complete casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab along the wound length to simulate active bleeding or wound ageing, distress clothing with a corresponding cut or tear aligned with the wound orientation, and position the casualty in an environment consistent with the mechanism. The elongated format particularly benefits from directional blood run consistent with the slash angle — that detail adds significant scenario credibility.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

What injury does this simulate?
A long, linear laceration reflecting a slash, drag, or extended sharp edge contact mechanism — the kind of wound produced by a knife slash, glass edge contact, or sustained cutting force across a body surface. The wound shape communicates mechanism directly and is distinct from stab, impact, or fragmentation wound profiles.

Why does wound shape matter for training?
Wound shape informs mechanism, and mechanism informs the broader clinical picture a trainee constructs during patient assessment. A long linear slash wound on a forearm tells a different story to a circular blunt impact wound in the same location — and training trainees to read that story accurately is a core assessment skill. Having distinct wound shape variants across a moulage kit ensures trainees are genuinely assessing rather than pattern-matching.

How does this differ from other laceration variants in the range?
Shape and mechanism are the differentiators. The Elongated Laceration is a long linear wound — slash or drag mechanism. The Circular Laceration is a rounded wound — blunt impact. The Jagged variants present irregular torn margins — high-energy or fragmentation mechanisms. The Sharp Laceration presents clean narrow margins — knife or glass stab. Each communicates a distinct mechanism and injury type.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer?
Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing to create a wound presentation. It has no internal function or strapping system.

Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab along the wound length during scenario setup.

How do I apply it?
Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges sit flat and blend naturally on curved surfaces.

Is it reusable?
Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing and low-profile shape between sessions.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the dimensions and weight?
The prosthetic measures 10 cm x 15 cm x 0.2 cm and weighs 0.1 kg.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit?
Yes. The Laceration Elongated is included in the TraumaSim Advanced Trauma Moulage Kit and selected other kit configurations. Contact TacMed Australia for details.
