TraumaSim's Open Laceration Small is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic presenting a small open, gaping laceration — a compact wound with separated margins and visible open wound face, suited to a wide range of body surfaces and trauma scenarios where a smaller but clinically significant laceration is the appropriate casualty presentation.

The open laceration presentation — separated wound margins revealing the wound interior — is clinically distinct from surface or closed wound presentations regardless of scale. Even at small format, an open laceration communicates that the wound has insufficient tissue tension to remain approximated, that the wound face is exposed and assessable, and that closure intervention is required. Training that wound recognition and response across different wound scales is important — small open lacerations on hands, fingers, scalp, and face are among the most commonly encountered wound types in both civilian first aid and clinical settings, and trainees need realistic exposure to compact wound presentations as well as larger-scale trauma.

The small format also gives instructors significant versatility in scenario and casualty design. Applied to hands, fingers, scalp, face, or feet, a small open laceration reflects everyday trauma mechanisms — kitchen knife incidents, glass contact, falls onto hard surfaces, sporting injuries, and tool-related accidents — that are highly relevant to community first aid, workplace health and safety, and clinical education programs. Multiple small open lacerations applied across a single casualty can represent a more complex multi-wound presentation without the surface area overhead of larger prosthetics.

At 11 cm x 11 cm x 0.4 cm, the prosthetic is compact with a slightly deeper profile than the Medium variant — the wound face depth adds realistic wound interior detail at the smaller scale.

To complete the casualty presentation, apply Ben Nye stage blood and fresh scab into the open wound face and along the separated margins, distress clothing or environment to reflect the mechanism, and position the casualty consistently with the scenario.

All TraumaSim silicone wounds are self-adhesive, washable, and reusable. Available individually and as part of TraumaSim moulage kits.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • Self-Adhesive Silicone Open Laceration Small
  • User Guide
  • Small-format open gaping laceration: Compact wound with separated margins and visible wound face — clinically distinct from surface wound presentations at any scale.
  • Versatile body surface application: Suited to hands, fingers, scalp, face, and feet — body regions where small open lacerations from everyday trauma mechanisms are most commonly encountered.
  • Useful for multi-wound casualty presentations: Multiple small open lacerations across a single casualty create wound complexity without large surface area overhead.
  • Relevant to community and clinical training contexts: Reflects everyday mechanisms — kitchen, glass, falls, sporting injuries, tool accidents — alongside broader trauma program applications.
  • 0.4 cm wound face depth: Slightly deeper profile than the Medium variant — adds realistic wound interior detail at smaller scale.
  • Self-adhesive silicone construction: Applies directly to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing without additional adhesives.
  • Tapered edges: Blend naturally into the surrounding surface for seamless presentation with no visible border.
  • Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction designed for repeated training use.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What injury does this simulate? A small open, gaping laceration — a compact wound with separated margins and visible open wound face. Relevant to kitchen knife incidents, glass contact, falls onto hard surfaces, sporting injuries, tool-related accidents, and other everyday trauma mechanisms that produce small but clinically significant open lacerations.

How does this differ from the Open Laceration Medium? Scale is the primary difference. The Small format — 11 cm x 11 cm — is suited to compact body surfaces including hands, fingers, scalp, face, and feet where small open lacerations are the realistic wound scale for the mechanism. The Medium format — 12 cm x 12 cm — is suited to larger body surfaces where a more prominent wound presentation is appropriate. The Small also has a slightly deeper 0.4 cm wound face profile compared to the Medium's 0.2 cm, adding wound interior detail at the smaller scale.

What body surfaces is this best suited to? Hands, fingers, scalp, face, feet, and other compact body regions where small open lacerations from everyday trauma mechanisms are realistic injury presentations. It also applies cleanly to limbs and torso as a secondary wound site in multi-wound casualty presentations.

Can multiple Small open laceration prosthetics be used on one casualty? Yes — applying two or three small open lacerations across a single casualty creates multi-wound complexity relevant to high-energy mechanisms, glass shattering incidents, falls onto multiple surface points, or assault-related trauma, without the surface area overhead of larger prosthetics.

Is this a wearable wound or a task trainer? Neither. This is a self-adhesive silicone wound prosthetic — applied to skin, manikin surfaces, or clothing. It has no internal function or strapping system.

Does it include bleeding capacity? No. This is a static wound prosthetic. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood and Fresh Scab into the open wound face and along the separated margins during scenario setup.

How do I apply it? Peel and apply directly to clean, dry skin, a manikin surface, or clothing. The self-adhesive backing holds without additional adhesive. Tapered edges blend naturally into the surrounding surface.

Is it reusable? Yes. All TraumaSim silicone wounds are washable and reusable. Clean gently after each use, allow to dry fully, and store flat to maintain the adhesive backing between sessions.

What skin tones are available? 11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the dimensions and weight? The prosthetic measures 11 cm x 11 cm x 0.4 cm and weighs 0.05 kg.

Can I purchase this as part of a kit? Yes. TraumaSim silicone wounds are available individually and in kit configurations. Contact TacMed Australia for details on kits that include this wound.
