The TraumaSim Severed Thumb is a realistic lifecast silicone prop simulating a traumatic thumb amputation — a compact, high-impact training aid for first aid, emergency response, and casualty simulation scenarios involving digit and hand trauma.

Traumatic digit amputation is a more commonly encountered injury in first aid and workplace emergency response contexts than many training programs reflect. Machinery incidents, power tool accidents, crush injuries, vehicle trauma, and agricultural incidents all produce digit and partial hand amputations at a rate that makes this a genuinely relevant training scenario — particularly for programs serving industrial, agricultural, construction, and trades workplaces where power tool and machinery exposure is high.

The prop presents detailed wound anatomy at the severed end — realistic tissue, bone, and wound margin detail that communicates the nature of the injury clearly and creates the clinical assessment and management demands the scenario is designed to train: haemorrhage control for an amputated digit, wound management at the stump site, appropriate handling and preservation of the amputated part, patient communication in a high-distress situation, and escalation and transport decision-making.

As a standalone prop, the severed thumb can be placed at a scene — on the ground near a power tool, in a machinery area, or alongside a role player presenting with a bandaged hand — to create the discovery element that drives trainee response. Paired with a Finger Glove stump prosthetic on the role player's hand and stage blood for bleeding effect, it supports a complete thumb amputation scenario with both the amputated part and the casualty wound site represented.

To complete the scene, apply Ben Nye stage blood to the wound end of the prop, create a blood trail or pool at the discovery site, and position environmental props — power tool, machinery, work gloves — to communicate mechanism. Patient communication training for amputation scenarios is a high-value add to any first aid or workplace emergency response program.

All TraumaSim props are hand painted and hand finished — minor variation in appearance may occur.

Available in 11 skin tones: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock; others are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before ordering if a specific tone is required.

  • Realistic lifecast silicone severed thumb: Detailed wound anatomy at the amputation site — tissue, bone, and wound margin detail for convincing traumatic amputation scenario presentation.
  • High workplace and industrial training relevance: Digit amputation from machinery, power tools, crush injury, and agricultural incidents is a realistic and relevant workplace emergency scenario.
  • Supports complete amputation scenario design: Pairs with Finger Glove stump prosthetics on the role player for combined amputated part and casualty wound site presentation.
  • Develops multiple training objectives: Haemorrhage control, wound management, amputated part handling, patient communication, and transport decision-making — all from a single prop.
  • Versatile standalone or integrated use: Works as a scene discovery element or as part of a broader hand trauma casualty simulation.
  • Durable and reusable: Washable silicone construction when cleaned and stored correctly.
  • Hand painted and hand finished: Minor variation in appearance may occur between units.
  • 11 skin tones available: Commonly requested tones held in stock; others manufactured to order.

What is this prop used for?
It's a realistic silicone lifecast of a severed thumb designed for use in first aid, emergency response, and casualty simulation training scenarios involving traumatic digit amputation. It can be used as a standalone scene prop or as part of a broader hand trauma simulation.

What training objectives does this prop support?
Haemorrhage control at a digit amputation stump, wound management, correct handling and preservation of an amputated part, patient communication in a high-distress amputation scenario, and escalation and transport decision-making. Patient communication training is particularly high value for this scenario type — digit amputation is extremely distressing for the casualty and requires specific communication skills from the responder.

How do I use this in a scenario?
Place the severed thumb prop at the scene to represent the amputated part — near a power tool, machinery, or alongside environmental props that communicate the mechanism. Pair with a Finger Glove stump prosthetic on the role player's hand for the casualty wound site, and apply stage blood to both the prop wound end and the role player's stump for active bleeding effect. Position the role player and environment consistently with the mechanism for full scenario immersion.

Is this compatible with the Finger Glove prosthetics?
Yes. The Severed Thumb pairs naturally with the TraumaSim Finger Glove Exposed Bone Injury or similar stump prosthetics applied to the role player's thumb to create a complete bilateral amputation presentation — amputated part at the scene, wound site on the casualty.

Does it include bleeding capacity?
No. This is a static silicone prop. To add bleeding effects, apply Ben Nye Stage Blood to the wound end of the prop and create blood pool or blood trail effects at the scene using simulated blood.

Is it reusable?
Yes. The silicone construction is durable and reusable when cleaned and stored correctly. Wipe down after each use, allow to dry fully, and store in a cool, dry location. Avoid compressing or folding the prop during storage.

Will it look exactly as shown?
Each prop is hand painted and hand finished — minor variation in appearance between units should be expected.

What skin tones are available?
11 tones are available: 00 Porcelain, 01 Light, 02 Medium, 03 Olive, 04 Medium Olive, 05 Rosy, 06 Warm Rosy, 07 Warm Tan, 08 Tan, 09 Dark Tan, and 10 Dark. Commonly requested tones are held in standard stock. Other tones are manufactured to order — contact TacMed Australia before placing your order to confirm availability and lead times.

What are the packaging dimensions and weight?
Packaging dimensions are 20 cm x 20 cm x 2 cm. Weight is 0.1 kg. Note that listed dimensions refer to packaging only — product dimensions vary as each prop is individually hand finished.

Who is this suited to?
First aid instructors, workplace health and safety trainers, industrial and trades emergency response programs, medic trainers, and any organisation delivering first aid or emergency response training where digit and hand trauma from machinery, power tools, or crush injury is a relevant scenario profile.
