Specially developed for Emergency Departments, The QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze helps manage bleeding quickly and efficiently, reducing time spent controlling haemorrhage in both ICU and emergency care settings.

QuikClot Z-Fold uses the same placement techniques as standard gauze, making it easy to integrate into your current protocols. The gauze is impregnated with kaolin, a hemostatic agent that activates Factor XII and accelerates the body’s natural clotting process.

Recommended Use:

  • Wide range of lacerations
  • Road rash
  • Wounds and ulcers
  • Postoperative wound dehiscence
  • Mutilated amputations
  • Skin tears

As Quikclot ED Z-Fold Gauze is designed for high use Emergency Departments, it carries a 2-year shelf life from the manufacturer. By the time it moves through the global supply chain and reaches end users in Australia, you can generally expect approximately 1-1.5 years of usable shelf life remaining. The expiry date is clearly printed on each package - we recommend checking this upon receipt and rotating stock accordingly.

  • Intuitive to use—same placement technique as standard gauze
  • Vacuum-sealed, compact packaging with eight tear points for quick access

What is QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze used for?

QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze is a haemostatic dressing for managing bleeding from cuts, lacerations, abrasions and traumatic injuries. The manufacturer also lists applications including skin tears, road rash and bleeding associated with wounds and ulcers. Always follow the product’s instructions for use.

How does QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze work?

The nonwoven gauze contains kaolin, a mineral that activates Factor XII to help accelerate the body’s natural clotting process. It is applied directly to the bleeding source with manual pressure.

Is QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze the same as QuikClot Combat Gauze?

No. ED Z-Fold is part of QuikClot’s hospital range for emergency department and ICU bleeding management. It has its own instructions for use, so application directions and product claims should be checked for this specific dressing.

Can QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze be used for wound packing?

Yes. The manufacturer’s instructions allow packing into the wound tract of penetrating injuries. The gauze must contact the actual bleeding source, with manual pressure applied according to the instructions supplied with the product.

How long should pressure be applied?

The manufacturer’s published instructions for QuikClot Z-Fold item #487 specify manual pressure for five minutes, or until bleeding is controlled. Follow the instructions supplied with your dressing and your clinical protocols.

Is QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze sterile and reusable?

It is supplied sterile for single use. Do not reuse or resterilise it, or use it if the sterile pouch is open or damaged.

Can QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze be left in the wound?

It is not absorbable and must be removed before wound closure. The manufacturer specifies a maximum of 24 hours in the wound. Removal should be managed by the treating medical team.

Does QuikClot ED Z-Fold Gauze expire?

Yes. Check the expiry date printed on each pack before use, and do not use it after that date. Contact TacMed before ordering if you need to confirm the expiry of available stock.
