HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack — TCCC and TECC Standard for Penetrating Chest Trauma
The HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack from North American Rescue is the standard vented occlusive dressing for the prevention, management, and treatment of open and tension pneumothorax caused by penetrating chest trauma. It meets and exceeds current TCCC and TECC guidelines and is widely issued to military, law enforcement, and ambulance services worldwide.
Each twin pack contains two individually packaged chest seals — designed to treat both entry and exit wounds from a single penetrating injury, or to allow one seal to be applied immediately while the second is held in reserve. The larger 15.25cm x 15.25cm seal provides broader wound coverage than compact alternatives, making it the preferred choice for ambulance, military, and tactical medical kits where IFAK space is not the primary constraint.
Why the HyFin Vent is the Clinical Standard
The three-channel vent system is designed so that even if two of the three channels become obstructed with blood or debris, the seal remains fully operational — a critical fail-safe in real trauma scenarios. Each seal includes a gauze pad to wipe the wound surface prior to application, and uses advanced hydrogel adhesive technology that maintains adhesion on skin covered in blood, sweat, body hair, or environmental contaminants.
The large red pull tab enables single-step peel-and-apply deployment. The transparent backing allows accurate placement over the wound site. NAR's Red Tip Technology tear notches ensure the rugged foil pouch opens reliably under stress — no fumbling in a casualty scenario.

What is the difference between the HyFin Vent and the HyFin Vent Compact?
The HyFin Vent has a larger 15.25cm x 15.25cm seal and a packaged profile of 19cm x 11.5cm — designed for ambulance kits, military medic bags, and settings where broader wound coverage is preferred. The HyFin Vent Compact has a smaller 12cm x 12cm seal and folds to 17cm x 10cm, making it better suited for IFAKs and compact kits where space is the primary constraint. Both use the same three-channel vented design and meet TCCC guidelines.
Does the HyFin Vent meet TCCC guidelines?
Yes. The HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack meets and exceeds current TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) and TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) guidelines for the treatment of penetrating chest injuries.
What is a chest seal used for?
A chest seal is used to manage open chest wounds by preventing air from entering the chest cavity through the injury, reducing the risk of tension pneumothorax following penetrating trauma.
What does "vented" mean on a chest seal?
A vented chest seal allows trapped air to escape from the chest cavity on exhalation while preventing outside air from entering on inhalation. This manages pressure build-up that can develop after a penetrating chest injury.
Why does this come as a twin pack?
Penetrating chest injuries can have both an entry and exit wound. The twin pack allows both wounds to be sealed, or one seal to be applied immediately while the second is held in reserve.
Do I need training to use a chest seal?
Training is strongly recommended. Chest seals are simple to apply but understanding when and how to use them correctly — including monitoring for deterioration after application — is critical to patient outcomes.
How long should a chest seal stay in place?
A chest seal should remain in place until the casualty reaches advanced medical care. Monitor continuously and address any changes in breathing according to your training and local protocols.
Does this replace professional medical care?
No. The HyFin Vent Chest Seal is an immediate response tool only. All penetrating chest injuries require urgent medical attention.
